Intercessory Prayer Ministry | Christ Embassy Church (North York)

about our intercessory prayer ministry

The Intercessory Prayer Ministry of Christ Embassy North York is called to wail and travail for souls, the lost, burdened and forgotten. The Holy Spirit carries out His intercessory ministry through us with with intense, wordless groaning; deep sighs that can’t be expressed in articulate speech. This isn’t the same as speaking in other tongues, this is the Holy Spirit interceding through us with groaning, deep sighs, sobs and moans. In the Intercessory Ministry, we make ourselves available for the Holy Spirit to make intercessions for others through us.

“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered” (Romans 8:26).

Why do we Intercede?

We Intercede for Souls

As we anticipate the Master’s soon return, we may never as one individual, be able to go into the entire world and preach to every soul on the face of the earth. However, there’re ways we can still be effective in global evangelism. One of such ways is through INTERCESSORY PRAYER; praying for the salvation of lost souls. Every Christian that’s truly been touched by the Holy Spirit burns with passion for intercession.

We Intercede for Christians under Persecution

The Bible also tells us to pray for those who are in trouble. Many Christians around the world are being persecuted for their faith. Some are being martyred for believing in Jesus Christ. Some are suffering terribly in hospitals, writhing in severe pains, due to sickness and disease. They may not even have enough faith to think about being healed, but our intercessory prayers can help them.

We Intercede for Brethren in the Church

We also intercede for our fellow brothers and sisters in the Church. In Acts 12, the disciples of Jesus found themselves in a predicament: Herod had seized James and killed him. When he discovered that this pleased the Jews, he went further and apprehended Peter. The Church had by this time realized that if they didn’t intercede for Peter, he would suffer the same fate as James.  Consequently, the Bible says “…prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him (Peter).”

We Intercede for Ministers of the Gospel

Church Ministers are gifts from God to the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-13) and we continually intercede for them so that they may be strengthened with might in their inner man, and shielded from the vicious attacks of the enemy. We pray for them to be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men (2 Thessalonians 3:1).

We Intercede for those in Bondage & Despair

Some Christians are in prison for offences they didn’t commit. There are also orphans, the poor, and those who have been neglected by society. We must intercede fervidly on their behalf! Peter might have been killed if intercessory prayers were not made on his behalf by the other believers. He was, however, miraculously released from prison as a result of their intercession (Acts 12:7-11).
